One by one they left behind the bright fields of innocence and stepped into the darkness of experience.
Their brave departures were discrete and humble.
Some do not return. Their absence is as big as sorrow, as wide as grief.

A veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank
cheque payable to their country for an amount up to, and including, their life.
That is beyond honor, and there are way too many people in this country
who no longer remember that fact...
