Status quo

Sometimes, a lack of change is good.

While others muse on Autumn after moving to a far, fair city, or wax eloquently about their new home after wandering to the Antipodes and back, I find myself, in many ways, where I was last year, and the year before, and the year before that. Which, I confess, suits me well.

I've an upcoming trip to Southern California, to the same general area as I visited before. That fits my comfort level nicely - I've been to LAX before, and rented a car from the same agency as I will this time. The trip down the Interstate I know well, and the final destination won't be hard to find. Even better, I know the hosts of the conference I'll be attending - it'll be a social visit, as well as business.

On the home front, despite frightening weather recently, things are calm - and pretty similar this year to last, too. The notable exception being that Mrs. Ricardipus is now a fully graduated, and (temporarily, we hope) unemployed school teacher.

A graduation rose.

And other things haven't changed much - still employed, still dealing with early-fall grant-writing season, and once again relaxing following the Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport, which I and my brother also attended last year. We had the annual cottage weekend earlier in August, and it was pretty much as it always is, too. Which is a good thing.

The red Ferrari was around last year, too.

I really find that I'm content, in a Jane Austen, settled-in-the-neighbourhood, kind of manner. Yes, it's a quiet life, but I know my limits. I'm well in my comfort zone, and happy about it.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ricardipus! I always hold teachers, vets and doctors in high regard with their patience, skills and nous (not necessarily in that order, I hesitate to add). I fear that I would have never made it as a teacher despite parental expectations. I took the easy route - bank teller, then computer person. 'Nuff said.
I envy you your trip to California Ricardipus, happy memories of that 'wild' State abound. Much malinged by many, but things are 'different' there. And it has Arnold!
Have a good one!

Contented, huh?

You know what's going to happen now, don't you?

Disaster, baiting of.

Aled - I've seen Arnold at a distance of about four feet. When he visited Toronto. ;)

Yes. Never, EVER admit to the universe that you are contented. It will immediately bite you right in the bum.

So, g'wan. Complain about something before it's too late.

Take some water with you to CA. I hear it's really hot there right now...

I'm actually quite jealous. I really am a homebody, but am married to a guy with an interesting combination of wanderlust and bourgeois attachment to family and roots and household items. So we are still unpacking the items, and trying to re-establish the roots. The family is hanging in there. But the mere spectre of us possibly moving again in a year makes me faint. And to a town I have not been to, which has its advantages, but its drawbacks, too. Well, one thing at a time. I, too, am off to a conference next week - in Vermont, where I can contemplate the foliage that will likely be lacking in LA. Hope you like it hot.

Vermont in September? That makes *me* a bit jealous, I haven't been there since I was probably about six years old.

I'm happy for you. Change suits many well, but to others, it's not needed. Congrats to Mrs. Ricardipus, may she find a great place to teach soon. :) Have fun on your trip to Cali.

P.s. I agree with WrathofDawn, once you admit to the universe you're happy, for some reason, it doesn't last long after that. Or at least something happens that brings it down just a little if not almost completely. I wonder why. Maybe it's all in our heads....haha. :p

Hello, ♥Bee, and welcome!

I didn't even think of the "tempting fate" aspect of this post when I, um, posted it. Sigh.

California should be fun - haven't been there for a bit, and the hotel is (predictably) just around the corner from the Ferrari dealership. ;)
