For anyone who's not over at Scaryduck's place reading his regular Friday story, do join in the fun and try out this quiz. It's the same drill as before. Here are two sets of lyrics. What do these songs have in common?
[Editorial note. I will stop all these music-related posts soon, and get back to something more interesting next week. Possibly.]
I couldn't stop movin' when it first took hold
It was a warm spring night at the old town hall
There was a band called The Jokers, they were layin' it down
Doncha know I'm never gonna lose that funky sound
Don't want to argue, I don't want to debate
Don't want to hear about what kind of food you hate
You won't get no dessert 'till you clean off your plate
Rule
Google is cheating. So is Yahoo (I'm looking at you, Black Knight). Wikipedia is in a grey area.
Hint
The answer is not 'they're both by American artists', although that is in fact true.
Disclaimers (again)
The above lyrics are copyrighted, and not by me. I may not get around to acknowledging the winner right away. There is no prize. E&OE. There may be multiple possible answers (see 'Hint', above) but I'm only looking for one specific one. All other disclaimers are incorporated by implication. Anything nasty you pick up from the web by breaking the Rule is entirely your own fault. Etc.

I don't know anything about the first one whatsoever, but the second one is Weird Al. Are they both parodies of well known songs?
You got the second one right, but that's not the right answer... something else connects these two.
Enjoyed your post about your week from hell BTW.
I can safely say, that's before my time. *snicker*
The first song is a bit before my time too... not the second one though.
Well, I was going to say they're both songs I've never heard before, but Rik put the kybosh on that.
They're... um... they're... um... I got nuthin'...
Ok, here's another hint:
Not 'Rik', but 'Rick'.
Rik is a separate name, whereas Rick is an abbreviation of Richard. Maybe this is a clue? Richard Clayderman wrote both whilst bored?
Ooo! Ooo! Rick? They were written by Ricardipus! I win!
Yes? No?
You lie, Ricardipus - the first song is not before your time.
At least, if wikipaedia is to be believed. Or maybe you're younger than you look.
Anyway, the producer of the artiste of one of those songs had a solo hit with the other one.
So you reckon this is essential reading for 60 people?
They have in common that I recognise neither of them.
Do I win a prize?
BK - perhaps I dropped a zero, I was aiming for six people. Sixty is way optimistic.
And you're right - Rick Derringer had a hit with "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" (the first excerpt) and produced and played the guitar solo on the second ("Fat" by Weird Al Yankovic).
'honofggg' - what you shout when you have a really bad head cold and realize you are about to be run over by a bus.
Those are the words for Eat it... Fat was a lot less subtle.
And rik is right, of course.
'umeig'- you, me and an antibody
