Obscure Song Quiz #1

Oh, it's easy, stop moaning. Here are two sets of lyrics. What do they have in common?

I hear colours black and red
I see sounds that fill my head
I'll never read those books again

I could make a mark if it weren't so dark
I could be replaced by any bright spark

Rule
Google is cheating.

Hint
The answer is not 'they're both by English bands', or anything silly like that.

Disclaimers
The above lyrics are copyrighted, and not by me. I may not get around to acknowledging the winner right away due to certain circumstances beyond my control (a firewall, for one, which allows me to post to Blogger *ahem* at lunchtime, but paradoxically not see any Blogger websites, nor comment on them). There is no prize. E&OE. There are multiple possible answers (see 'Hint', above) but I'm only looking for one specific one. Etc. etc. etc.

Correct. You are incorrect.

Two songs, different artistes, same song name.

Black Knight is correct.

You may now Google, but let me save you the trouble. The first is "Darkness" by the Human League, from Dare. The second is "Darkness" by The Police, from Ghost In The Machine.

Both albums were released in 1981, and both tracks are less-memorable ones from otherwise excellent albums.

Well done BK. I said no Google - which search engine did you use? ;)

Yahoo.

Pah, I'm not old enough to remember either.

Eeek! I think I used to own the "Ghost in the Machine" album. Or some Police album. I had little kiddies around at the time, so I may be mistaking it for Fred Penner or some such.

But I remember neither song. Forgettability of the music or my failing mind? You be the judge...

I'm sorry, I never heard either of them. I was not sufficiently obnubilated by Phil Oakey's or Sting's hairdos to purchase the albums. Strictly a singles girl at the time.

I took to Sting's hairdo a bit later though. Anyone got an opinion on this Dowland lute thng of his?
