Mystery flowers...

...seen on an early morning walk around the local pond. Does anybody know what these are? They were hanging over someone's back fence, on a large shrub:

Bigger and more realistic photo is on Flickr. They seem to come in yellow as well:

Answers on a postcard, please, to the usual spot (i.e. the Blogger comments box). Ta.

In other news, it's only four days until International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Which is also the 650th anniversary of the Battle of Poitiers. Apologies to any French readers (about the battle, not about the pirates).

Ta, VD. Looks about right. 'Campsis' - trumpet vine, trumpet creeper.

Following this clue, I guess the yellow one is probably Campsis radicans 'Flava'.

So that answers that, then.

The pusillanimous trumpet creeper, rarely seen. Rather cowardly, some would say.

I was going to tell you tha they're trumpet viney thingies too, but as vagina dentata beat me to it, I won't bother.

Very pretty photos though :)

Actually, after doing someresearch I am getting a tad worried.

Have you noticed any large pods left lying around and anybody acting in a peculiar manner...?
